Our last day in NY

We got up at 4:30 this morning to go to church
We're waiting for the subway.

Some people stack their cars when they go to church at Brooklyn Tab.
This is the church, a converted theatre that seats about 2500.
I think they have the best church choir in the nation. (180 voices approx.)

James got to play this chess guy at Central Park.
It took about 10 moves for James to win.

I think this is called a Limmersine.

The sun sets on our time in New York.  Talk about inspirational.  I'm wax'in poetic.

Hiking in NY

We had our most beautiful campsite yet, where we spent a week, hiked one day in a state park near here, traveled to the city three times, and ran or played mini golf often.

Lots of great bouldering in this area.

This cave we only found by talking with other hikers.

The view from the high point of the hike.

The long commute

The day started all smiles.

At 9:00 pm Tuesday night, it's this quiet at the World Trade Center PATH train.
We had our share of waiting                                        Still feeling ok around 9:40 pm.

Pretending to sleep.

 10:55 pm., not pretending anymore.

There was some more sleeping in the truck, mostly by those not driving, and we finally got back to home sweet trailer at 12:15 am.

NY and NY, NY

We had our longest drive of the whole trip on Sat. Oct 16, going from Sherbrooke, through Vermont and Massachusetts, into Middle New York.  (We were feeling chased South by the cold)  The border crossing was a miracle with a simple 15 minute interrogation and admonishment, with no physical search of any of our stuff.  Sunday, after service at an awesome baptist church, we visited the home and grave of Franklin D. Roosevelt.

Woodstock, Vermont.  thousands of 'local tourists'

Lane to Roosevelt house

View from the lawn.  Hudson River valley.
James and Janna were up the stairs on the left, so I called out, 'James and Janna Roosevelt, get down here right now please!'  I got a few strange looks, but I think no one was fooled.

The grave of the President and his wife, Eleanor.

The Grand Lawn, where we hung out for a good half hour.

Ground Zero memorial model. The foot print of each tower will be a square water fountain with 30 ft. water fall, and the names of all the nearly 3000 deceased from the Sept. 11, 2001 attack, will be engraved on bronze plates.

I'll post soon about the commute for this day.  A story all its own.
